Low and Lower at the Bechtler

With only a cello, a bass, a sense of humor and two voices, musicians Brooks Whitehouse (cello) and Paul Sharpe (Bass) deliver a musical comedy show of the classical variety. This duo, known as Low and Lower, offer performances of artistry, virtuosity and satire. Low and Lower will be performing at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art on January 7 at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. as part of the Music and Museum program.

Since its inception in 2010, Low and Lower has been traveling the country with the duo’s comedic show, inspiring as much laughter as love for classical music. Sharpe and Whitehouse are both classically trained musicians who are still active in orchestras. Whitehouse is the principal cellist of the Winston-Salem Symphony, while Sharpe is the Artist-Teacher of Double Bass at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Well known for a daring arrangement “Poke,” which satirizes social media, Low and Lower constantly updates its repertoire with new compositions recently written for them by Joshua Davis, Bruce Tippette and John Allemeier and an upcoming commission by Lawrence Dillon in 2014/2015.
