Macon Film Festival to hire festival programmer
With less than two months until the 9th Annual Macon Film Festival (MaGa), big changes are afoot. In mid-October, festival organizers hosted a reception at the SoChi Gallery in downtown Macon to announce new board members and a new mission statement. Late Monday night, MaGa Board President Terrell Sandefur announced that the festival was hiring its first paid festival programmer. The part-time position would be responsible for managing the submission process and proactively seeking quality films that reflect the mission of Macon Film Festival.
The mission of the Macon Film Festival (a Knight Arts grantee) is:
“Surrounded by a rich musical and southern culture, the Macon Film Festival celebrates independent films while promoting filmmaking for entertainment, inspiration, education and economic development.”
According to Sandefur, by midday Tuesday he had already received several inquiries about the position from around the country. He said he expects to have a large pool of qualified applicants from which to choose the festival’s first paid position. The deadline to apply is January 15. The new programmer would presumably begin programming for the 2015 festival immediately after being hired.
