Made in Philly makes its debut, showcasing extraordinary locally produced visual art
By Ann Peltz, The Center for Emerging Visual Artists
Now through the end of October, look for large-scale artwork images on bus shelters, rail platforms, and billboards across Philadelphia…and on the first and third weekends of that month, visit the studios of the artists who made them.
The Center for Emerging Visual Artists and leading sponsors The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, and With Art Philadelphia are proud to announce the launch of Made in Philly in conjunction with the 2013 Philadelphia Open Studio Tours. The campaign takes over traditional advertising spaces to showcase the extraordinary but often untold quantity and quality of visual art being produced in Philadelphia…and connects each work displayed to the neighborhood (even block) where it was created!
Made in Philly celebrates the accomplishments of the individuals behind Philadelphia’s ongoing creative renaissance. Through a coordinated takeover of 50 street-level advertising spaces throughout Philadelphia, the project will display works created by local artists for September and October 2013. This award-winning Knight Arts Challenge project calls attention to the exceptional works of visual art being produced throughout Philadelphia neighborhoods – and the ideas and promise they represent. The project integrates outstanding artwork, diverse and accomplished professional artists, a carefully-orchestrated promotional campaign, engaging public events, and the 2013 Philadelphia Open Studio Tours to bring audiences the very best of the visual arts this Fall.
