During the month of love, get cozy with MDC Live Arts’ extraordinary live performances.

At 8pm on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1 & 2, don’t miss the South Florida premiere of renowned choreographer and dancer Kyle Abraham and his company, Abraham.In.Motion (A.I.M.) in The Realest MC at the Colony Theatre, 1040 Lincoln Rd. Live! The Realest MC references our own humanity in this digital age, creating an abstracted and humorously dark narrative that places the iconic childhood character in an industrial dystopia. “Trying to be someone else to not be noticed is really kind of messed up,” Abraham says.  A.I.M.’s work combines sensual and provocative vocabulary with a strong emphasis on sound, human behavior and all things visual in an effort to create an avenue for personal investigation on stage. The company is represented by dancers from various disciplines and diverse backgrounds. Together, these individualities create movements that are manipulated and molded into something fresh and unique.

The entertainment continues with the Austin-based Rude Mechanicals theater company in their acclaimed The Method Gun, at 8 p.m. on Friday & Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9, at the Colony Theatre. Presenting themselves as abandoned disciples of a questionable acting guru, The Method Gun takes audiences on a wild and inventive ride that looks at the cult of acting. The company attempts to realize their mentor’s vision of a radically-reduced production of A Streetcar Named Desire. The performance is daring and celebratory in roughly equal parts, exploring ideas of togetherness and loss, the dynamics of being part of a tight-knit group and what it means to take care of one another. Rude Mechs has earned national acclaim, including a nod by The New York Times, which heralded them as one of the three companies in the country “making theatre that matters.”
