Octavio Campos & the MTC want you!

The SandBox Series at Miami Theater Center (MTC) nurtures artists under the guidance of Series Producer Octavio Campos. The SandBox Series, a Knights Arts grantee, welcomes artists from all performance disciplines to apply for the 2014-2015 series.

“For our cultural community to thrive, artists need spaces like Miami Theater Center to share new works, ideas and perspectives,” said Dennis Scholl, Vice President of Arts at Knight Foundation. “We are excited by this third SandBox series season of programming, and how it will both engage audiences and provide a platform for emerging writers and performers,” Scholl added.

Artists chosen for the SandBox Series receive a commissioning fee and three weeks to rehearse and two weekends to perform six showings of a new work in the SandBox, MTC’s 50-seat black box performance space, as well as opportunities to teach classes for the community. They also benefit from individualized technical and professional support from MTC staff.

Here’s what you have to submit: a bio; an artist’s statement; a written project narrative; a two-minute video of yourself describing your project; and two short video clips of prior work. The proposed project must be a new work, and applicants must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the United States.

Applications are due by February 14, 2014 at 6 p.m. To complete an online application, visit www.mtcmiami.org/sandbox-series. For any questions about the application process, contact SandBox Series Producer Octavio Campos at [email protected]. The application and materials should be sent to: Miami Theater Center 2014-15 SandBox Series, 9806 NE Second Avenue, Miami, FL 33138. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of theater professionals, and finalists may be invited to present their project proposals in person at Miami Theater Center. The five artists selected for the 2014-15 SandBox Series will be announced in July 2014, and the Series residencies will take place between October 2014 and June 2015.
