As Miami City Ballet’s (MCB) 25^th Anniversary Season opening night rapidly approaches, the wardrobe department has been hard at work for months. We visited the shop while they were working on the costumes for the company premiere of Fanfare. As many companies do, MCB sometimes rents costumes from other companies, but not in the case of Fanfare! The wardrobe ladies are making them from start to finish. Fanfare is choreographer Jerome Robbins’ bright and witty take on Benjamin Britten’s “The Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra.” Each instrument in the orchestra is represented by dancers in this light-hearted ballet – the cast is divided into two groups and then sub-divided into individual instruments. The orchestra is put back together for the wonderfully entertaining finale.  Fanfare was specially chosen to open the 2010-2011 Season to welcome back, after a two-year hiatus, MCB’s live Opus One Orchestra.  The orchestra returns to MIAMI CITY BALLET through a challenge grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

We snapped a few shots during our costume shop visit. Although we tried our very best to capture the magic, these photos do not do the amazing costumes justice.
