One Voice visits 2012 Youth Pride
By Craig Coogan, One Voice Mixed Chorus One Voice was proud to exhibit at the 2012 Youth Pride event on Friday, June 8 at Newell Park. Nearly 125 youth gathered for games and fun. We were delighted when a group of students saw the One Voice banner and yelled out “One Voice! We love you! You were at our school!” They ran over to the table and recounted how important and affirming it was to have One Voice come to their school, rehearsing and performing with them. Several got so excited that they signed up to audition next fall. One Voice gave away vouchers for free tickets to the students for this weekend’s concert Come Fly With Me: A GLBT Romp Around the World along with a $5 discount for adults. The three-hour party ended with OVation, One Voice’s portable ensemble, serenading the youth around the park with favorites like “Married in London” that spoofs people’s resistance to marriage equality.
