Opportunities for funding: Knight Foundation’s open challenges

This spring, Knight Foundation will be running several open challenges across a variety of program areas. Here is an update on each of them.
Knight Arts Challenge: Seeks the best ideas that enrich and engage communities through the arts. The challenge is currently operating in:
- Miami: The next round of the challenge will be open Feb. 4 – March 4. Knight’s Arts Associate Tatiana Hernandez compiled a list of resources and strategies on how to best apply;
- Philadelphia: The contest recently announced innovative ideas proposed by 69 finalists. Winners will be announced in late April;
- Detroit: The first year of the contest will be open for applications March 25 – April 22.
The Knight News Challenge: Accelerates media innovation by funding breakthrough ideas in news and information. Winners of the News Challenge: Mobile will be announced Jan. 17. The first challenge of 2013 will focus on tools for open government and will open in February (you can follow the hashtag #newschallenge for updates).

BMe: Building a network of black men in Detroit, Philadelphia and Baltimore committed to making communities stronger. They are fathers, coaches, students and businessmen—regular guys from all walks of life who are engaging neighborhoods, starting businesses and mentoring kids. On Jan. 23, BMe will launch a call for community impact – providing funding for projects that involve men working together to better their communities. More information will be provided soon at bmecommunity.org. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2013.
