PBS to livestream, cover Miami Book Fair International

Each year, Miami Dade College throws a party for book lovers in Downtown Miami. About 200,000 people join us to hear from some of the world’s greatest authors, in one of the biggest book fairs in the country, under our warm November sun. Related Links

This year, if you can’t join us Nov. 16-23 in South Florida, we’re making it easier for you to join the fun.  In its first major book event coverage, PBS will be livestreaming the Miami Book Fair International’s main weekend, Nov. 22 and 23, and providing a nightly recap show to stations around the country, thanks to Knight Foundation’s support. You can watch six hours a day of coverage online, or watch daily wrap-up shows with Jeffrey Brown, Chief Correspondent for Arts, Culture and Society for PBS NewsHour and three-time New York Times bestselling author Kelly Corrigan, with additional live on-the-street segments by WPBT Miami host Kalyn Chapman James.

The coverage, filmed by Detroit Public Television, includes a daily live stream presentation of selected interviews, panels, and on-the-street fair segments via BookViewNow.org, PBS.org and other PBS websites, as well as mobile websites, and across PBS’s diverse portfolio of video apps on the iPhone, iPad, Xbox, Roku and Apple TV.

The live stream coverage will be available via a free, embeddable online player to any website, anywhere—including bookstore or publisher websites, blogs and other media websites wishing to share the stories, events and energy of the Miami Book Fair International with their audiences.

This is a really exciting new chapter for the Book Fair in reaching national audiences. Selected fair programs have been broadcast on C-Span’s Book TV for almost 25 years. Streaming live and distributing to PBS stations all over the country will only enhance the fair’s national reputation as a leading forum for the best in contemporary literature.  This partnership will continue to solidify our city’s role on the national book scene, and confirms what we in Miami, and those outside Miami who are hip enough, already know: Miami is a literary city, indeed.

Just a few days back, in an interview, Knight Foundation President Alberto Ibargüen said:  “I  challenge you to go through the book fair, and not find something that you’re interested in.  Whether it’s horror, or music, whether it’s comedy, or fine literature…or whether it’s just simply talking with other people who are interested in learning more. You’ll have a good time.”

We extend that challenge to all the places where an Internet connection can give access to the Miami Book Fair.

Enjoy!
