Poetry is (not) dead! and Richard Blanco at NWS

If you ever wanted to dress up as your favorite dead poet, it’s time to drag out your Gertrude Stein, Robert Frost and Hafez costumes for O, Miami’s “Poetry is Dead” parade. The parade starts outside of The Betsy Hotel on Ocean Drive and “will act as a funeral procession in reverse,” whereby the dead poets will rise up and reclaim their voices. The parade starts at noon this Sunday, April 28th.

O, Miami Poetry Festival.

After the parade, presidential inauguration poet Richard Blanco, Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and NBC’s Megan Amram will close the O, Miami Poetry Festival with a poetry reading at the New World Symphony Center on Sunday, April 28th at 7 p.m. There will also be poetry films by the Borscht Film Festival. Tickets are selling out, so reserve your ticket as soon as possible.

And, finally, once the reading ends, hop in your poetry-mobile and head over to the Sweat Records party at Freehand Miami for the “O,fter Party” with Thurston Moore.
