“Pointe the Way” to accessible quality dance
In addition to the North Carolina Dance Theatre’s outstanding company, innovative choreography and remarkable performances, NCDT is engaged in significant outreach efforts to make quality dance training accessible to minority and low income families with the NCDT REACH! program. Started in 2009, NCDT REACH! offers free dance classes, dance attire and tickets to professional performances to children with evidenced financial need. In support of this program, the Corps de Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre’s volunteer service and social organization, is throwing a fundraising event, “Pointe the Way – Uptown, Downhome.”
On September 28 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Patricia McBride and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux Center for Dance, “Pointe the Way” will feature an evening of tutu-tinis, food from City Smoke, soulful jazz and R&B from the Charlene Williams & Friends Band, as well as a sneak peek at George Balanchine’s “Western Symphony.”
“The Corps de Ballet continues to provide vital support for the NCDT REACH! program. Through Pointe the Way, they help to foster friendships and an appreciation of dance in our community. The funds raised help to ensure that the deserving students in NCDT REACH! continue to have access to high-quality dance training,” said NCDT’s Executive Director Doug Singleton.
The “Uptown, Downhome” theme promises an evening of sophistication with Southern flair. Tickets for the event are $75 at the door; they can be purchased online or by calling 704-372-0101.
