Question Bridge: Black Males

As The Kinsey Collection comes to a close at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, all talk is centered on the new exhibitions slated for the fall.

Question Bridge: Black Males — one of three new exhibits — will open to the public on October 26, 2013. This exhibition will explore challenging issues within the black male community by instigating a transmedia conversation. Through this video-mediated question and answer exchange, the economic; political; geographic; and generational divisions of American society will be bridged.

Question Bridge provides a safe setting for necessary expression and candid dialogue on themes that divide and unite black males in the United States. Honest questions are asked and followed by honest answers from black males of all backgrounds. The exhibition provides new opportunities for understanding and healing, while representing a critical period in history for the African-American community. After watching the short, two-minute video teaser, I can only imagine how the exhibition will ultimately unfold within the walls of the Gantt Center. I believe the exhibition will not only appeal to individuals like me – a young African-American male – but a majority of audiences through its unusual and unique unveiling. I am beyond excited for the premiere of Chris Johnson, Hank Willis Thomas, Bayeté Ross-Smith, and Kamal Sinclair’s project on Saturday, October 26 and look forward to witnessing its impact on the Charlotte community.
