Singing in the park: Florida Grand Opera presents annual public concert

By Liana Cole, Florida Grand Opera

Have you ever had the urge to walk down Miami Beach bellowing an aria from a famous opera? Imagine- joggers slowing to a brisk walk, tourists snapping pictures, restaurants and bars becoming silent in amazement, people might even pulling up lounge chairs so they can just sit and listen. Well, it happened!

On Sunday March 6th, members of Florida Grand Opera’s Young Artists Studio brought their remarkable voices to Collins Park in Miami Beach where they performed for FGO’s third annual “Opera in the Park” concert. Over 250 people came out with dogs and children in tow to listen to arias from FGO’s two upcoming performances, Don Giovanni and Cyrano. Craig Colclough performed “Madamina” and “Batti batti o bel Masetto” was sung beautifully by Brittany Robinson. Musical theater pieces weren’t left out as Daniel Shirley and Rebecca Luttio sung “I have dreamed” from Rogers and Hammerstein’s The King and I and Jim Barbato gave his rendition of Agustin Lara’s “Granada.”

These are just to name a few, as the event was a complete concert filled with talented artists and beautiful music.
