Tiny Dynamite Productions summer 2012 update

By Emma Gibson, Tiny Dynamite Productions Tiny Dynamite Productions (2011 Knight Arts Challenge winners for their project ‘a Play, a Pie and a Pint’) are currently in rehearsal for ‘The Country’, by British playwright, Martin Crimp. This marks the first full length production for the company following the success of the first two seasons of ‘a Play, a Pie and a Pint’. This will be the first professional Philadelphia production of British Playwright, Martin Crimp’s work. The production runs from June 20 – July 1st at The Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5. One of the most acclaimed voices of modern playwriting, Martin Crimp’s work spans cult texts, such as Attempts on her Life, and bold adaptations of Molière. Most recently, his translation of Big and Small, a co-production with The Sydney Theatre Company, opened at The Barbican Centre to rave reviews. Fraught with suspense, The Country is a darkly humorous and compelling play about a doctor and his wife who move to the country with their children to start a new life, but their rustic idyll is shattered one night by the discovery of an unconscious stranger.

“Martin Crimp’s new play is an assault on the pastoral myth: the Virgilian idea of the countryside as a  place of order, harmony, continuity. What Crimp shows,  in this fascinatingly cryptic 90-minute piece, is the  fractious disharmony of a deracinated generation less concerned with planting roses than tranferring  neuroses from the city to the country.” Michael Billington THE GUARDIAN

The production will be directed by Barrymore nominated director, David O’Connor. O’Connor has worked with Tiny Dynamite on both seasons of ‘a Play, a Pie and a Pint’ and is resident director of Philadelphia Young Playwrights and an adjunct professor at Temple University and The University of Pennsylvania.

The show will also feature artistic director of Tiny Dynamite, Emma Gibson, alongside fellow actors Laura Edoff and Carl Granieri, click here for ticket info. The third season of ‘a Play, a Pie and a Pint’ will be announced in the summer. Further information at www.tinydynamite.org
