The A.I.R. Dance Conference comes to MDC Kendall campus

The 3rd Annual Artistry in Rhythm Dance Conference: Engaging the Community (A.I.R Dance Conference) is an academic dance conference that’s open to Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges and the community.

A.I.R. The conference features master dance classes, lectures and performances from guest artists that explore the impact dance has on the community and the individual. It also encourages local artists to develop their artistry through an academic lens. The list of guest artists this year include Michael Ferrol, Yanui, Pioneer Winter, Constance McIntyre, Elaine Wright, Hanan, Teo Castellano and many others.

Participants will experience somatic work with Polestar Pilates and The Falls Yoga with Sam Levine, as well as get the chance to explore technique in classes including ballet, belly dance, contemporary dance, hip‐hop, Afro‐Haitian, as well as panel discussions.

Special Performances:

Michelle Grant-Murray will present “UnEarthing Dance: Perspective, Pedagogy, and Perspective,” a synopsis of her new book entitled, Beyond the Surface: American Dance History on Tuesday, April 15 at 8p.m. in the MDC Kendall Campus Art Gallery.

Gelan Lambert (choreographer for Tarell McCraney’s “Anthony & Cleopatra”) will conduct a three-day residency on contemporary dance, as well as present “Don’t Believe the Hype” on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. in McCarthy Auditorium.

Tyrell Rolle (“The Beatles LOVE by Cirque de Soleil”) will teach two days of intensive contemporary jazz dance. Choreographed work by Simone Sobers, Brittany Williams and Joanna Ursal will be also presented.

The cost of the conference is $20.00 for three days of dance and includes one ticket to the evening A.I.R. dance concert. Classes will take place on April 15-17 from 9 a.m. Visit A.I.R.’s website for more information.
