The Art of Recycling

By Young At Art Museum

When most people think about recycling, edgy, green-themed couture made from bubble wrap, newspaper, plastic bottles and aluminum is not the first thing that comes to mind.  Enter Young At Art’s teen volunteers and girls from PACE Center for Girls who have applied these eco-friendly, stylistic elements and more to original designs that will deliver the “go green through art” message when presented runway-style during the 5th Annual Recycled Fashion Show, “Global Stomp,” on Friday, November 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Museum.  Proceeds from the evening benefit Young At Art’s teen and at-risk youth programs.

The one-of-a-kind eco-art fashions were inspired this year by the art and environmental practices of different countries. The evening’s atmosphere will be charged by colorful style boards on display, crafted by the teens to describe each country’s environmental and sustainability needs and practices.  Exploring Young At Art’s Earthworks Exhibit will extend the evening’s environmental experience as visitors embark on a creative journey to turn common, everyday recycled items into fashion accessories.

Mary Giuseffi, a renowned fashion/image consultant who has appeared on Oprah, 48 Hours, The Montel Williams Show and ABC News, will be the emcee for the evening.  Guest judges include Luis Valenzuela, fashion designer and eco artist, who recently debuted his collection during New York Fashion Week; Tom Bendt, interior designer; and Marjanne Kalf, a fashion designer whose work has been featured on the popular show She’s Got The Look.

Young At Art is located at 11584 West State Road 84 in Davie. Tickets for Global Stomp are $50 per person. Sponsorships include reserved seating and are available beginning at $500.  For tickets, sponsorships and more information, contact Mary Lynn Perrino at 954-424-0085, ext. 23 or visit YoungAtArtMuseum.org.
