The Light Factory revitalized

The Light Factory.

As The Light Factory- Contemporary Museum of Photography and Film (TLF) settles into its new location on 1817 Central Avenue, a new lineup of photography classes will begin in April. Despite last October’s suspension of operations and dire outlook for this 41-year-old organization–one of four museums in the nation that exclusively focuses on film and photography–The Light Factory now seems revitalized with a new board of directors, new location and classrooms, new darkroom and reinvigorated membership. Over the next two to three months, TLF will begin showing exhibitions in its new gallery space as well.

Through its mission to educate and provide space for novice and professional photographers alike to share ideas and techniques, TLF will offer its traditional classes in Digital SLR Photography from beginning to advanced levels. These classes are hands on and include in-class critiques and shooting assignments in Center City Charlotte. With prices beginning at $150 to $274, you can master aperture, shutter speed, exposure and all those tiny buttons on your camera. If classic film photography is more your style, TLF will also offer a black-and-white film photography class taught by renowned photographer and videographer Carolyn DeMeritt.

Class Schedule:

  • Introduction to Digital SLR Photography: Session A, Wednesdays, April 16 – May 21, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; Session B, Mondays, April 21 – June 9, 6-9 p.m.
