The Mint’s Dr. Jameson to speak at the Light Factory

The Light Factory’s 6th Juried Annuale, now on view, was judged by the president and CEO of the Mint Museum of Art, Dr. Kathleen V. Jameson. She selected the six finalists out of 110 entries. The exhibition opened at the end of May and will run until September 15.

Tonight, in the Light Factory’s Knight Gallery, Dr. Jameson will share her perspective on the six winners, why she chose them, and her selection process.  At 7 p.m., Dr. Jameson will lead attendees through a gallery tour and talk.  This event is free and open to the public.

The 2013 Annuale winners are:

  • Rachel E. Andrews from Denver, N.C., whose introspective series was inspired by “Through the Looking Glass” by Lewis Carroll
  • Timothy McCoy from Cumming, Ga., for his series “Long, Long Journey to the Sea”
  • Laura Williams from Chapel Hill, N.C., for her series of photographs that explore natural objects through a variety of layers and lenses
  • Mitchell Kearney from Charlotte, N.C., for the works in “From—A Dream”
  • Susan Alta Martin from Cullowhee, N.C., for her photographs exploring the reality game show “Wipeout”
  • Jessica Naples from Columbus, Ohio, for her series “Here Without Me,” in which the artist’s identity and role is explored and questioned

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn and understand how art is judged and selected from one of Charlotte’s most influential arbitrators.
