Poetry is a kind of geography. It is a map that places us and reminds us of the past–of memories stuck in our subconscious. #ThisIsWhere _____________ is a WLRN + O, Miami poetry contest that encourages all South Floridians to write a poem about a place that is meaningful to them.

Locals wrote poems about a place meaningful to them. Where their lives were changed. About the first place they made love, got dumped, lost their dog, found their cat, drove into a tree, buried their goldfish, threw up after a weekend at Ultra or found an iguana that was not their iguana in their bathtub. They told us what happened and even what it tasted like.

Five #ThisIsWhere contest winners will be announced at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at Miami Club Rum, 2320 N. Miami Ave., Miami. If you’d like to read your poem at the event, please arrive promptly.
