“Three Steps to Heaven” at The Stage
If you want to know how to get to heaven, get in line at The Stage in Miami’s Design District on Nov. 12 at 9 p.m. for David “LEBO” Le Batard’s “Three Steps Toward Heaven,” a live improvisational performance painting series staged in three parts.
Described as “an artistic progression toward happiness,” which I assume ends in heaven, LEBO’s painting as performance is, at the very least, pure energy. His performances make you want to move your feet on the dance floor while he puts color to canvases propped up on a 200-square-foot stage against a sonic backdrop of cool vibes and video projections.
Even though the audience is in a club surrounded by laser lights, “LEBO’s” performances are ultimately about the creative collaborative process, the visual and aural, and the creative output of each performance is always unique.
LEBO works in collaboration with a video performance artist, or VJ, who brings The Stage to life with a carefully chosen musical playlist as LEBO paints in synchronicity with the music.Throughout the performance, LEBO creates continuous compositions on canvas that “harmonically and rhythmically recreates sequences of sound in time by laying down stylized lines combined with vivid palettes.”
For more information on the artist, please visit www.lebostudios.com. For more information, visit www.thestagemiami.com, or head to 170 N.E. 38th St. in the heart of the Design District. Live performances set for Nov. 12, Jan. 14 and March 10. Indoor Stage VIP | Doors 8 p.m. | Tickets $15 / $20
