‘Tribe’ opens On.Stage
I get nervous when I hear the word tribe. Division and separateness come to mind and I detest those things. However, when we integrate disconnected and separate communities, or tribes, to create a greater community, that piques my interest.
“Tribe,” a new performance work created by Bistoury Physical Theatre, narrates the lives of homeless persons living in Miami-Dade County. With an emphasis on the LGBTQ homeless community, “Tribe” reveals and honors the complex and diverse lives of homeless individuals who lack fundamental protections that many of us enjoy without question.
Liony Garcia, one of the performers in “Tribe.”
Director and choreographer Alexey Taran composed “Tribe” with fellow compatriots and performers Rudi Goblen, Carla Forte, Liony Garcia, Gustavo Matamoros,Vicente Forte and Javier Galeano. Through dance, film, sound and visual art, “Tribe” delicately merges fine art with social theater and suggests a new vision for a greater Miami-Dade County. A vision that integrates and embraces marginalized communities with compassion and a high-dose of realism.
“Tribe” will be performed at 9 p.m. on April 2, 3 and 4, and at 7 p.m. on April 5, at the On.Stage Black Box theater at Miami-Dade County Auditorium, 2901 W. Flagler St., Miami. For general ticket information, call 305-547-5414. To purchase tickets online, visit Ticketmaster.
