Viernes Culturales celebrates South Florida’s youth

By Yvette Rodriguez, Viernes Culturales Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays, a Knight Arts grantee, is known to be a monthly festival showcasing the arts and culture to South Florida’s residents and beyond, but the celebration doesn’t end there. For September’s  festival, Viernes Culturales has added an element that will cater to South Floridas’s youth, and also help them with their health. It’s a Zumba class and will be held in honor of National Childhood Obesity Awarenesss Month.  The free Zumba class is part of the ‘Children’s Art Clinic’, a new series of arts workshops for children that will be held during Viernes Culturales.  Children between 4 and 16 years old are encouraged to attend. The Children’s Art Clinic will feature a different free workshop for children every month. Stay tuned to find out the exciting plans for next month’s clinic!

The celebration of South Florida’s youth continues at Domino Plaza Stage as the Singers from the Florida Grand Opera Young Artist program perform selections from the popular Zarzuela Luisa Fernanda.  Children and Families can enjoy a free performance from this extraordinarily talented group and also get a preview of selections from FGO’s upcoming seasons.

Also performing will be Miami’s own, Lanzallamas Monofonica, and the soulful jazz band, Modernity. Families can also enjoy an hour of fun on the dance floor with all-star Latin dancers Denisse and JC. They will teach merengue, danzón, salsa, sones, and many more steps to get you moving.
