Visceral Verse: TERRA’S first poetry slam
Visceral spoken wordplay is in the heart and soul of any poetry slam. Slams are a competitive and fierce battle between fellow poets who rely on their voice and verses to communicate their message to the audience. On Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. the students at TERRAEnvironmental Research Institute, Miami’s first “green school” located in Kendall, will hold their first poetry slam at Barnes & Noble in Kendall.
Even though National Poetry Month ends this weekend, the students at TERRA, a magnet high school with engineering, biomedical and environmental academies, will exercise their creative energy and keep poetry alive and slamming in the city. According to Deanne Getreu, department chair at TERRA, “Our students are a collection of conscientious 9th and 10th graders that will be performing original poems and are looking forward to sharing their work and possibly receiving feedback from professionals in the writing community.”
If you would like to support poetry in our community and the creative minds at TERRA, join them for their first Visceral Verse poetry slam at Barnes & Noble.
Barnes and Noble is located on 12405 S.W. 88th St., Kendall, Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Visit http://greenschool.dadeschools.net/TERRA/HOME_PAGE.html for more information about the TERRA Environmental Research Institute.
