Write your book with poet Emma Trelles

Every day poetry has the power to move us. It can speak for us and to us in ways that can’t be easily understood or quantified. The power of poetry is intuitive and it lives somewhere between the soul and the stars. In many ways, poetry is a language of its own, a language that expands our understanding of the world and of ourselves. Unfortunately, we don’t use the awesome power of poetry that lives in us as often as we should. Enter: Emma Trelles.

Emma Trelles.

Emma Trelles is the author of Tropicalia (University of Notre Dame Press, 2011), winner of the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize and a current finalist for ForeWord Reviews’ poetry Book of the Year, and the chapbook Little Spells (GOSS183, 2008). For the next four weeks, poet and teacher Emma Trelles will facilitate a poetry course at The Center @ MDC. “Every Day I Write the Book: 4 Poems in 4 Weeks” will guide students through the process of conceiving and executing a poem per week. With a heavy focus on image and language, Trelles will guide aspiring poets and established writers on a Herculean journey that will sharpen their skills for writing memorable poetry.

For those who are uncertain or insecure about their writing, but want to explore their creative impulses, Trelles is the perfect teacher for you. Trelles walks her students into the world of poetry and arms them with the confidence necessary to write without fear or self-doubt. This is an essential element that only a great teacher can inspire in her students.

The course will take place on Saturdays, October 13 – November 3, from 1-3 p.m. at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables. Cost: $150. The Café at Books & Books by Chef Allen is extending a 20 percent discount to students enrolled in Center Workshops on the day of the class.
