XXVI: International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami
The acclaimed International Hispanic Theatre Festival (IHTF) of Miami, presented by Teatro Avante, American Airlines (the festival’s official airline) and the Adrienne Arsht Center, is celebrating its 26th anniversary season with a tribute to Chile. The festival will present some of the best theatre companies from Latin America, Europe and the United States in various locations in Miami and Key Biscayne, July 7 through 24.

The festival will also hold a special International Children’s Day on Sunday, July 17 and will feature workshops in acting, dance, voice/music, painting, arts and crafts, face painting and puppetry workshops. International Children’s Day will culminate with two performances. Los Prometeitos, the children’s troupe of Prometeo Theatre, will perform “Ratoncillo Y Su Amor Imposible,” a story about friendship overcoming evil. This performance will be followed by “El Pajaro Dziu,” which is a story about respect, courage and man’s relationship to his environment. On Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., an Educational Component Conference and Book Presentation, sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, will present Current Trends in Latino and Latin American Performing Arts — A Tribute to George Woodyard. This conference is a collaboration with the University of Kansas’ Latin American Theatre Review and the Florida Center for the Literary Arts at Miami Dade College. The location for this event is Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus, 300 N.E. Second Ave., Bldg. 1, Auditorium and Bldg. 2, #2106, Miami. The event is in Spanish with some English interpretation available.
