Stereotypes persist. Sometimes they box us in and keep us from reaching our full potential and sometimes these boxes exist as a catalyst for creativity and innovation—even if it means destroying those stereotypes and becoming absolutely vulnerable. Multilingual slinging African American Hasidic gay hip hop artist Y-Love has broken through well-established stereotypes and his work has blossomed because of it.

Y-Love’s work fuses English, Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic and Latin to create a culturally diverse and inclusive sound. His work blends scripture with social consciousness that creates a musical space where alternative voices and rhythms emerge. Y-Love doesn’t fit neatly into a one category. Instead, his work prospers because it communicates openly to an audience who is also open to receive. This openness is magical especially in a genre where the prototype of the hyper-masculine hip hop artist looms large. Y-Love, of course love, because love is what eschews away the stereotypes that bind and limit our potential. With a vengeance, Y-Love sings against this oppressive barrier.
