Young at Art: September Update

Now that school is back in session, Young At Art Museum offers an array of after-school and weekend Art Classes in state-of-the-art studios that tap inner creativity and expression.  At a time when schools are cutting arts classes and programs, we at Young At Art firmly believe that arts education is not a luxury but an essential part of a child’s development and increases creative thinking for life-long learning.  The Museum offers age-appropriate classes, aligned with the Florida Sunshine State Standards, in drawing, painting, black and white photography, mixed media, ceramics and sculpture. The ArtSTUDIO provides after-school and weekend classes in eight-week sessions throughout the year with art showcases at the end of each session where students can proudly display their artwork for family and friends.

Family Masterpiece is a three-hour class available once a month where the entire family gathers to work as a team to produce unique family portraits in a collaborative art-making experience. Using different artistic techniques and mediums, the Museum invites you to create memories that last a lifetime.

And, what about those teacher workdays, early-release days and school holidays?  Young At Art offers a creative answer for working parents with ArtCAMP. Filled with themed activities and museum exploration, ArtCAMPs are scheduled to coincide with the public school calendar for all early-release days, teacher work days and holidays.

Don’t forget, until September 19 Young At Art is hosting the national traveling exhibition K’NEX: Building Thrill Rides, which provides visitors with the opportunity to explore the science, math and technology behind hair-raising amusement park thrill rides. K’NEX brings art to life through the colorful sculptures of some of our favorite amusement park rides while tapping into children’s curiosity about how things work. Models range from a ten-foot tall roller coaster and a six-foot Ferris wheel to a variety of swing rides from three-10 feet and the Serpent’s Spiral, a four-foot tall roller coaster all made from K’NEX parts. Visitors can conduct simple experiments to explore physical forces such as potential and kinetic energy, and linear and rotational motion.
