Charlotte Ballet’s “Innovative Works”

Four new works will premiere at Charlotte Ballet’s ever popular and exciting “Innovative Works” production. Choreographers David Ingram, Mark Diamond, Sasha Janes and Dwight Rhoden have all created new ballets for this season’s show. Only two weekends remain to experience them.

This year’s production presents the works in a new way, with video introductions from each of the choreographers (instead of simply leaving it up to audiences to read a brief synopsis in the programs or no explanatory text at all). See all of the introductions here. With modern dance’s often highly conceptual premise, these introductions and clarifications were significantly helpful, especially to those who find themselves lost when it comes to the modern and contemporary arts.

The four works include:

  • “Píso Sto Midén” by David Ingram
  • “Path” by Mark Diamond
  • “Peace Piece” by Dwight Rhoden
  • “The Seed and The Soil” with concept by Frank Selby and choreography by Sasha Janes
  • A fifth ballet, “We Danced Through Life,” by Sasha Janes will be rotated with “The Seed and The Soil” on February 14th, 19th and evening of the 21st.

Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased online or by calling 704-372-1000. “Innovative Works” will be preformed at Charlotte Ballet’s 200-seat theater at the Center for Dance. Audiences are invited to join the dancers for coffee and dessert after each performance.
