Neverland returns to Charlotte this week with Charlotte Ballet’s rendition of Peter Pan. Opening March 12th, Peter Pan will run at the Knight Theater until March 22nd. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased online or by calling 704-372-1000.

Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s Peter Pan follows the traditional story with some unique twists. Set to the score by Gioachino Rossini, the story transports audiences to a fantasy world with a mischievous boy who never wants to grow up, his sassy sidekick Tinker Bell and the frightful Captain Hook. “Peter Pan is about not having limits; it’s about living in a world where you can dress up, play and take chances,” Bonnefoux has said.

The two-act ballet includes a cast of more than 50 dancers and will feature some high-flying choreography accomplished by two-track systems that help lift dancers off the floor. According to promotional materials for the production, Jamie Dee Clifton, who will be reprising the role of Wendy, had to work to overcome her acrophobia. “I’m terrified of heights. It took me a while to warm up to the idea of being suspended high up in the air by a wire,” she said. But now, she added, she can “happily say that once the curtain opens and the ballet begins, the character and the story take over, and I really do feel like I’m flying.”

The Charlotte Ballet presents Peter Pan March 12-22 at the Knight Theater at the Levine Center for the Arts, 430 S. Tryon St., Charlotte; charlotteballet.org. Tickets are $24-$90 and can be purchased by calling the Charlotte Ballet’s Box Office at 704-372-1000 or online at carolinatix.org.
