Get your teens ready for All City Slam

The Tigertail Spoken Word Workshops and Slam begins Thursday, June 27th at Miami Beach Botanical Garden with free workshops for Miami-Dade teens (13-19 years old). All City Slam starts off with an afternoon of intensive workshops given by poetry stars Alexis Caputo, Teo Castellanos, Rudi Goblen and Deborah Magdalena who will guide and encourage students to develop their literary slam skills.

Spoken Word is a relatively new art form that demands more than just creative writing skills. The poet must posses a sophisticated oratory delivery system and body language that engages (or slams) the audience with a visceral, rhythmic and thought-provoking performance.

“Since Tigertail launched WordSpeak seven years ago, we have primarily worked with specific area high schools,” said Mary Luft, Tigertail’s executive director. “Now, the All City Slam can provide more teens with a WordSpeak experience.”

Bring your kids and the neighbor’s kids to All City Slam. It’s a great way to get teens off Facebook and Twitter and to jump into the slam arena.

All City Slam, a Tigertail WordSpeak event for teens, will take place on Thursday, June 27th at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, 2000 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m.; workshops run from 4-5 p.m. and 5-6 p.m.; the slam is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Workshops and participation in the slam are free.
