Grant Jammatron gives life to Macon’s Hip Hop culture

The legendary Grant’s Lounge in downtown Macon has a history of nurturing up and coming artists. From the early days of partnering with Capricorn Records to the present day of embracing the Grant Jammatron, the legacy continues.

Back in the day, Phil Walden was skeptical about new artists crowding the Capricorn Records’ studio. So, he made an agreement with Edward Grant, Sr. to conduct auditions at Grant’s Lounge. It was a win-win situation for both business men. Walden could focus on finding new talent, while his signed artists were able to take care of serious business in the Capricorn Records’ studio. On the other hand, Grant, Sr. did not have to worry about the overhead to book bands in his bar. I doubt these two guys knew they would give Macon, Georgia world-wide recognition by founding the Southern Rock genre and breaking bands like The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie, Stillwater and many more.

Nowadays, Cheryl Grant Louder and Edward Grant, Jr. keep their father’s heirloom relevant by sharing the history of the Southern Rock movement which helped make Grant’s Lounge successful. In addition, they also fill the voids of the new-age Hip Hop genre by embracing the Grant Jammatron which is hosted and produced by, Doski Woski, Macon’s own Hip Hop, soul and rap recording artist. Doski Woski has performed on the same stage as and with artists like Ludacris, Pastor Troy, Fonzworth Bentley and Bubba Sparxxx, to name a few. His mission with the Grant Jammatron is to breathe life into Macon’s Hip Hop culture by highlighting live MCs and guest DJs every Tuesday night at Grant’s Lounge. The ambiance is not typical of any other night at Grant’s Lounge. Sometimes, you may walk in and see a XBOX360 tournament going on in the midst of MCs and DJs. Other times, a photographer may be walking around taking photos of people’s shoe game.
