Grantee Update: Arts & Science Council

ASC is hard at work planning our ninth Random Act of Culture (RAC). Though the location will remain a closely guarded secret until that date, the upcoming RAC will feature two musicians from the Charlotte Symphony. This is our second RAC with symphony musicians and their third performance for the initiative. We’re looking forward to sharing it!

Speaking of sharing RACs, ASC ‘s YouTube page had a banner month (and continues to grow rapidly) thanks to the wild success of the Philadelphia Opera Company’s wildly successful RAC YouTube video. The video of our most recent RAC has now been viewed by more than 100,000 people, with each of the other RAC videos closely behind in views. It is exciting we are able to share our RACs with so many people.

In addition to our RAC initiative with the Knight Foundation, we are also happy to see the recipients of another Knight Foundation grant, the Cultural Innovation Grant, are continuing to put together successful events, and programs.

Charlotte ViewPoint just released a book with the Novello Festival Press celebrating 20 years of the Novello Festival and Southern literature. Topograph features short stories, essays and poetry. Carolina Actor’s Studio Theatre (CAST) opens The Day They Shot John Lennon on Dec. 8. The play looks at the cross section of individuals who celebrated the life and mourned the death of John Lennon the day he was murdered in 1980.

ASC looks forward to working with these groups to further strengthen and advance these organizations.
