Preview: Live, Love, Local this Saturday at the Eastern Market

The Greening of Detroit has contributed to green infrastructure, practiced reforestation and provided support to urban gardeners in the city for more than 20 years.

Tomorrow, August 24, from 12-3 p.m. at the Eastern Market, The Greening of Detroit in partnership with edibleWOW magazine will be hosting its 3rd annual Live, Love, Local celebration. The event acts a benefit to support Greening of Detroit, whose programming includes massive-scale tree planting to reforest the segment of Detroit’s tree population that was decimated by Dutch Elm disease; the Downspout Disconnect program that addresses issues related to excess runoff from storm water causing overflows in the sewage system; and a new partnership with Detroit Public Schools to promote a curriculum based around nutritional awareness.

Live, Love, Local is also a foodie’s playground, with 25 of some of the most high-profile restaurants in Metro Detroit staging tasting stations. Participants include Dorsey, Cacao Tree, Calder Dairy, Colors, Henry Ford Village, The Grange, Mudgies, Rattlesnake Club, Roast, Slows Bar BQ, Supinos, Sweet Lorraines, The Lark and Zingerman’s, and the $25 ticket includes the full panoply of tastings, as well as two drink tickets from an array of local beers, sodas and wines from Sandhill Crane Vineyards.

WDET’s Ann Delisi will be on hand as the guest host, and there will be “Living Green in the D,” an eco-village installation featuring some demonstrations on how to green your own home and start producing the local fresh produce that is putting Detroit on the map.

Whether your passion is food, fun or just a great Saturday at the Eastern Market, be sure to make your way to Shed #5 and check out Live, Love, Local in support of a great Detroit institution! Tickets are available at the door or online.
