Study Party 13: Magical Mystery Tour at the McColl Center

McColl Center for Visual Art.

McColl Center for Visual Art (a Knight Arts grantee) transforms itself this upcoming weekend on April 13 into a magical trip through musical history. The event, Studio Party 13: Magical Mystery Tour, is a moveable feast, themed party and contemporary art sale all in one.  The doors open at 7 p.m. with a special VIP pre-reception for sponsors at 6 p.m.

Studio Party 13 will feature eight themed artist studios decked out in homage to influential musicians. Visitors can “experience visions of marmalade skies and tangerine trees, spot a yellow submarine and have the chance to ponder if love is really all you need.” Special party happenings also include a best dressed prize and a photo opportunity with John and Yoko in that iconic bedroom image.

But more importantly, visitors will have the chance to buy contemporary art from the Center’s current resident artists as well as 30 of the Center’s alumni.  Spanning all three floors of the McColl Center building, this event promises to be the largest art sale in the region. Exhibiting artists include Natalie Abrams, Dan Allegrucci, Tommo Kitamura, Endi Poskovic, JoAnn Sieburg-Baker, Pam Winegard, Alyssa Wood and Ginny Boyd just to name a few.

Tickets are on sale now, starting at $100 per member and $125 per non-member.  Sponsorship packages can also be purchased, starting at $350 for two tickets and recognition on the McColl Center’s website, as well as an invite to the pre-reception event.

The McColl Center for Visual Art: 721 N. Tryon St., Charlotte; 704-332-5535; www.mccollcenter.org. Open to the public Thursday and Friday, 2-7 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; and by appointment.
