UNC Charlotte celebrates J.S. Bach

In the Anne R. Belk Theater of Robinson Hall, J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos No. 3 and 6 will be performed at UNC Charlotte as part of the University’s Faculty and Friends Concert Series. On Wednesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m., Department of Music faculty David Russell, Anne R. Belk Distinguished Professor of Violin, and Mira Frisch, associate professor of cello, will join with two UNC Charlotte violin students and local musicians Tanja Bechtler, Eric Thompson and Rachel Rudoi, along with special guests from Cleveland, Miami and Winston-Salem’s UNC School of the Arts to celebrate J.S. Bach. General admission tickets are $9; seniors and UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, and alumni tickets are $7; and student tickets are $6.

The program will include:

  • Viola da Gamba Suite No. 1 in G Major, BWV 1027
  • Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord in B minor, BWV 1014
  • Brandenburg Concerto No. 6
  • Air from Orchestral Suite No. 3
  • Brandenburg Concerto No. 3

Special Guests:

  • Violist Sheila Browne from University of the North Carolina School of the Arts, a soloist and chamber musician who has performed as a principal for several orchestras, including the Juilliard, Mainz, Freiburg and German-French chamber orchestras.
  • Elizabeth DeMio is a collaborative pianist, recitalist and soloist in the Cleveland area. As a recording artist, she can be heard on Crystal, Yaffe and Azica labels.
  • Richard Fleischman is the principal violist of the Santa Fe Opera and has won numerous honors in his 25-year career, including the Windsor Prize, personally awarded to him by Leonard Bernstein.
