In Detroit, Knight New Work allocated a total of $275,000 for five locally based artists and arts organizations who utilize technology in their practices to enhance the way art is created, shared, and experienced.
As accessibility to emerging technologies has increased, artists and arts organizations are harnessing the power of new digital tools to redefine the boundaries of artistic expression. In support of this novel approach, Knight Foundation launched Knight New Work — first in Miami, then moving to Knight cities across the country.
“At Knight, we firmly believe in the ability of the arts to connect people and place, creating stronger communities,” said Jennifer Farah, Knight Foundation’s Arts Director. “This year’s Knight New Work grantees are breaking new ground at the intersection of art and technology, producing works that demonstrate the important role the arts play in Detroit.”>
The 2024 Knight New Work recipients in Detroit will use new technologies to create experiential art installations that explore a wide range of cultural and societal themes in their selected projects, each bringing a fresh perspective in the telling of the city’s rich history.
